Why we work the way we do

Water treatment has an honesty problem, and in Massachusetts it shows up in a specific way: softeners sold into Greater Boston homes that already have one-grain water. MWRA supply runs around 16 mg/L of hardness because the reservoirs sit on granite that doesn't dissolve easily. It is some of the softest municipal water in the country. Selling a softener into it is not a judgement call — it's just wrong.

We started Blue Tiger in 2009 on the opposite premise. Measure first. Show the homeowner the numbers. Recommend the smallest thing that solves the actual problem, and say so plainly when the answer is nothing at all. It is a slower way to build a business and a much more durable one, because the customer we talked out of a four-thousand-dollar system is the one who calls us three years later when their well test comes back with manganese.

What we're good at

Sequencing. Most of the failed systems we're called in to fix weren't failed products — they were correct products installed in the wrong order. Iron ahead of a softener fouls the resin. UV on cloudy water gives you a green light and untreated water. Standard carbon on a chloramine supply does almost nothing. Getting the train right is the whole craft, and it's why we test before we quote instead of the other way round.

How we handle lab work

Massachusetts requires a MassDEP-certified laboratory for drinking water analysis, and we use one for everything that matters: PFAS6 against the state's 20 ppt standard, arsenic against the 10 ppb limit, radon, bacteria, nitrate and the full well panel. You get the lab's report, not our summary of it. After a PFAS or arsenic system is commissioned, we re-test — because a treatment nobody verified is just a hope.

Licensed, insured, and local

We're licensed and insured in Massachusetts, we pull permits where the town requires them, and the person who tests your water works here. We're based in and we cover eastern and central Massachusetts — Greater Boston, MetroWest, the North Shore and Merrimack Valley, the South Shore and Cape Cod, Worcester County and out into the western part of the state.
